    Story of the land

    Our History

This region, often referred to as the last frontier, was first explored and developed a little over a century ago, marking a significant chapter in the history of western expansion. The early settlers, or pioneers, including the rugged cowboys of the era, were among the first to venture into this remote and untamed territory. Their journey was one of resilience and determination, as they crossed vast landscapes, traversing rivers and streams on horsebacks, swimming their horses across treacherous waters to reach new grounds.

These early settlers were driven by the promise of opportunity and the allure of untouched land. As they established themselves in this challenging environment, they began to prosper, gradually transforming the land through sheer perseverance and hard work. The harsh conditions of the frontier required them to adapt quickly, and they developed a unique way of life that was deeply connected to the land. Ranching became the cornerstone of their existence, with the open range providing both sustenance and a means of livelihood.

The landscape began to change as the Dominion Lands Act of 1872 came into effect, a policy that encouraged further migration to these western lands. This act, which offered parcels of land to settlers willing to cultivate and develop it, led to a significant influx of people seeking new opportunities for homesteading. As more and more settlers arrived, a settlement began to take shape, one that was predominantly based on ranching. The community thrived, fueled by the spirit of the frontier and the hard work of those who sought to build a life in this rugged, yet promising, environment.

However, as time progressed, the economic dynamics of the region began to shift. The rise of corporate farming introduced new challenges to the traditional way of life. Large-scale agricultural operations began to dominate the landscape, leading to changes in land use and a gradual decline in the small, independent ranching operations that had once been the heart of the settlement. As corporate interests grew, the settlement lost much of its earlier momentum. The bustling activity that had characterized the area during its peak years began to wane, and the region slowly reverted to a more isolated and backcountry state.

Today, there is a renewed vision for this land, one that seeks to honor its rich history and revive the way of life that once defined it. The goal is to breathe new life into this region, to restore the vitality that it once had, and to bring back the cowboy way of living that was so integral to its early settlers. This vision is not just about restoring the past but also about telling the story of this land to a broader audience. It is an effort to preserve the legacy of the pioneers and cowboys who first tamed this frontier, ensuring that their stories, their struggles, and their triumphs continue to inspire future generations.

We aim to reestablish a connection with the land, to celebrate its history, and to create a space where the spirit of the frontier can be experienced once again. By doing so, it seeks to keep alive the traditions and values of the early settlers, ensuring that the legacy of this last frontier is not forgotten but is instead shared with the world, inspiring a new generation to appreciate the rugged beauty and rich heritage of this remarkable region.

An improved lavender variety, traditionally British but now resistant to both cold and heat, has been developed to thrive in Kamloops despite its challenging climate with significant temperature fluctuations. These vibrant, fragrant flowers can now be cultivated locally, allowing for the production of air-dried bouquets, bath products, essential oils, and more.

The summer is too hot and dry, and the trees spontaneously ignite, triggering the burning of the entire forest. This is fatal to the damage to the land. Without the trees, animals and people who rely on the forest for survival will also be greatly negatively affected.

The worst wildfires in recent years have burned down almost half the trees, and in the process of rebuilding the entire land, we have developed a deeper connection with the land. In this process, many resources were reused. After the forests were burned, a large amount of wood emerged that could be cut down. There was also land that needed to be replanned. Some areas where trees no longer grew were turned into pastures that could be grazed. Damage allows us to assume the responsibility of improving and restoring the environment, and it also brings a new beginning.
